June 28 - Passing the TV at work

True, the tvs at work on are 24 hours a day, and there are 4 different broadcasts at all time, but it's amazing how often I look up while passing one and catch a glimpse of Elvis. Tonight it was perhaps a countdown list, because it was 70's eera Elvis and then went to a talking head.

June 28 - Fred 62 review

Reading an old issue of LA magazine (not this one, but the Hollywood one) while getting my hair done and saw a review of diners, with a mention of Fred 62 and how they have Elvis-themed Hunka Hunka Burning Love peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

June 28 - T-shirt in the elevator

I've been meaning to get back to this, but it was a super busy two weeks. But today I passed a girl heading the elevator wearing an Elvis shirt in the hipster style and I thought I've got to get back to logging the daily sightings. And then I had 5 today, so really, no excuses, time to get back in business!

"HUNKA HUNKA BURNING MAD: Spoon-bending psychic Uri Geller all shook up after learning that the home once owned by Elvis Presley that he thought he purchased on eBay last month was actually sold to Nashville producer Mike Curb. Guess his psychic powers didn't tell him that was going to happen."

Watching an interview with Linda Thompson's sons... when asked to tell someone who they are, who their family is, they ID's their mom as having lived with Elvis for many years.

Amazon emailed me suggesting I'd like this book, based on my previous purchases. Surprise, I've owned it for years. You don't know everything, Amazon!

June 5 - EW goes Elvis crazy!

So I'm barely 10 pages into this week's issue, which arrived very late -- but already one of the first pages is a fullpage photo of Graceland interior (I'm sure there will be an article later explaining this) and the Idol wrap up mentioned Elvis. So two so far -- many more to come, I'm sure...

Geller Misses Out on Elvis House
Paranormalist Uri Geller is fuming after discovering Elvis Presley's former home, which he bought on eBay, has been sold to someone else. Last month Geller made a successful $905,100 bid on eBay for the Tennessee property Presley lived in before moving to Graceland. But the owners snubbed the deal and sold the four-bedroom house to a foundation formed by music producer Mike Curb. Geller, who planned to turn the house into an Elvis museum, says, "We are absolutely, mind-blown angry. Of course we're going to sue." But eBay warns its rules will make it difficult for him to sue. Spokeswoman Catherine England says, "The platform we provide in real estate really serves to generate interest. It isn't a legally binding contract."

Lounging in bed, watching cable in the am, and decided to watch Raising Helen -- totally forgot about the scene where she sells a "loud" car to Larry Miller by invoking the names of Sinatra, Martin, and Elvis.

June 2 - Old issue of Blender

I keep the Dave Chappelle version of Blender in the car for quick reading when I'm stuck somewhere killing time -- and yesterday I was reading an article (in the Chin Chin parking lot waiting for my food to be ready) which mentioned Elvis. Sorry I can't remember what the exact context was. I was hungry at the time...

May 31 - Surprise on the iPOD

I've loaded my random iPOD up with all the new albums I've gotten -- so every song is a new surprise. In the new Michael Buble live CD, he mentions Elvis in his intro to the song "Smile."

May 31- Idle chatter at the office "water cooler"

I was getting something from the snack machine, he was microwaving something, we were discussing the fire drill earlier. He mentioned Elvis -- in some context, I can't remember what. Then we went our own separate ways... Sigh...

Us Weekly has been on it!

Sources at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles confirm to Us that Gwen Stefani gave birth to a baby boy shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday. After the C-section delivery, Stefani's husband, Gavin Rossdale, and Stefani's father walked out of the operating room and greeted waiting family in a private room. Rossdale announced that the baby had been born and the entire room started screaming and clapping. Sources say the rocker parents are considering calling him Kingston, or "King" for short.

Awww. Kingston is not only a nod to Rossdale's native England, but Elvis would approve too of their little King.

And so do we!

May 26 - Office decoration

Walking by someone's cubicle on the second floor after hours on the holiday weekend's Friday, saw a cubicle with two images plastered up: the famous Elvis kiss photo and the new Elvis Lives logo. Don't know this person, but like this person!

May 26 - Blender mentions

Curses, Entertainment Weekly was a disappointment this week, with narry a mention. But Blender came thru with 2: a question about twins in Rock (mentioning Jesse Garon) and a Q&A with Mariah Carey's breaking Elvis's and the Beatle's records. And she talks about it saying "We're talkng about the two most legendary entitties in music ever!"

On the menu, Patty Loveless's "I thing about Elvis" -- a video which I've never seen before. Two photos of the man illustrate her "thinking"

May 22 - Shakin' his bon bon

Watched E!'s "Sexiest Rock Stars" and the section on Ricky Martin compared his stage moves to Elvis shaking his pelvis.

May 21 - People reviews "The King"

Some new movie with Gael Garcia Bernal and William Hurt. And yes, People says it does have some reference to Elvis Presley.

May 21 - EW comes back strong, very strong

Three mentions in one issue!

First was, of course, American Idol recap, but at least this time they had Griel Marcus who said "No question, Elvis is dead. Were he not, he would have killed them all."

Second, a big story about Garth vs. Elvis in record sailes.

Third one, I can't remember now, but I'm pretty sure there was a third one...

May 18 - Easy Come, Easy Go

At the upstairs gallery of the Academy theater, there's an exhibit the year 1967, and it has displayed the poster for Easy Come, Easy Go -- and a letter from The Col. to Hal Wallis.

May 18 - IT!

Got this book from the library. She writes for Page 6. In the first chapter, she talks about how publicists pitch her crazy stories, like promising Elvis Presley would be attending an event.

Not being an American idol fan, I thought I'd be safe reading an interview with Clive Davis, but no, turns out he was on American Idol recently, so of course they asked him about Elvis week. Enough already!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caught the very end of a Turner Classic Movies movie, in which the host Robert Osborne mentioned the film was remade several times, including as Elvis's Kid Galahad. Couldn't find a quick photo of Elvis from KG when I searched for Elvis boxer, so here's a photo of him with a boxer.

In flipping thru a book of photos by Harry Benson, I came across a picture of late era Roy O in Graceland, posing with Elvis busts. It was taken circa 1987.

Watching old Ocean's 11 interview with George Clooney in which he describes Jerry Weintraub as being Elvis's manager, which isn't quite right but counts nevertheless....

May 9 - American Idol overkill

Even when I try to escape it, I can't. An innocent E! Online article turns into... Meanwhile, this season's remaining four contestants are still toiling away to pick the right songs, please Paula, shush Simon and stay in Randy's dawg pound. To prepare for this week's show, where they'll channel one of America's first idols--Elvis Presley--Daughtry, Yamin, Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks jetted off to Graceland to work with music mogul Tommy Mottola. Formerly the head honcho at Sony Music Entertainment and spouse of Mariah Carey, Mottola currently heads Universal's Casablanca Records and is married to Latin pop singer Thalía.

And what's a trip to Graceland to study the King of Rock 'n' Roll without a meeting with the royal family? Priscilla and Lisa Marie were also in residence to welcome Idol's final four.

"I think it's a great thing," Priscilla Presley told reporters. "I love the fact that these are people from all over the United States who probably would never have had the opportunity to be in this position."

The season-five winner gets the good news May 25.

May 9 - First Gawker Stalker mention

Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, walking in Soho. Now, on its own this would have been kind of boring just b/c I cared more about him when he was the guy from Bend it Like Beckham as opposed to the guy who managed to pull off the lead in a Woody Allen film and a tv movie about Elvis both in the same calendar year. And I’m pretty over both his and Keira Knightley’s pouts. But I digress…So JRM is walking along and talking to his friend (female). He’s in tight black jeans, scary small waist, really pasty, looking a bit like Pete Doherty to be perfectly honest; constantly lifting up his white old man’s hanes t-shirt, kind of a weird spring in his step, and exposing his blue Calvin Klein underwear. Of course, my friend who was with me was convinced JRM was “taunting” him specifically with the underwear flashes. So, the British Elvis is going on and on quite loudly about how apparently Colin Farrell mouthed off on some random radio show that Irish women should wax, and do a bit more grooming downstairs and waxing stats in his country skyrocketed. Like, comparing them to women of the world, Colin was really bummed that his countrywomen were performing poorly in that category. My favorite line from JRM, in that accent of his, “I mean, it’s like Colin f*cking Farrell says get waxed, and women all over Ireland go get waxed.”

5/3, 6 p.m: Saw Lisa-Marie Presley walking south on Bleecker with a bunch of people. Thought, ‘That haggard woman looks a lot like Elvis’s kid.’ Wore sunglasses & a scowl. Took off glasses before quickly getting into a huge black SUV. Looked a bit tired & very much like daddy.

Watching on YouTube the Universal promo that I hadn't seen in at least 8 years, I forgot Shelley Fabares makes an appearance and says "When I made Clambake with Elvis."

May 6 - EW skips a week but comes back strong

Late to the story, EW reports on the cover artwork similiarity of the new kd lang album with the Clash London Calling and the first Elvis album -- with photos illustrating each....

May 3 - Cabinet with Elvis painted on it

So I googled Elvis cabinet and this is what came up. This is not what I meant. I meant a cabinet with Elvis painted on it - which is what I saw in a book I picked up at the library tonight about Los Angeles's funky things.

May 2 - More Country Weekly mentions

So the previous issue of Country Weekly with Toby on the cover came a day after the current one (good mail service!) and in it there's an Obit for Charlie Hodge and Jon Bon Jovi mentions Elvis.

May 1- Enough about the Ebay house

In this week's Country Weekly, there's a photo of EP and a small story about the house being sold on ebay, a story which I am mighty sick of by now. But of course I do want to know how it turns out.

Finally watched the Tim McGraw TV special, and the McGraws sing the classic Elvis song, at the end of which Tim says in Elvis-ese "Thank You Very Much!"
