Sept 18 - Three in an hour
Elvis popped up three times in a hour:
1. Reading the Sunday LA Times Magazine, in a full page interview with Nic Harcourt, there was a question that listed off musicians including Elvis.
2. In the LA Times Calendar section article on the new DVD of The Outsiders, Francis Ford Coppola again mentioned Elvis in relation to changing the soundtrack
3. On HGTV, the show "Guess Who Lived Here" featured Elvis's Audubon house.

Sept 17 - Francis Ford Coppola quote in this week's Entertainment Weekly
Entertainment Weekly never disappoints. this week, in the article on p. 69 about the new version of The Outsiders, Francis Ford Coppola is quoted:
Perhaps the most noticeable change is the new soundtrack, which cuts back on the velvety score by Coppola's late father, Carmine, substituting the rock & roll extravangza that the director originally wanted. "I listened to it later and thought, this is a little thick. Like a curtin. But I didn't feel comfortable removing his cues. I'd say, 'Hey, Dad, maybe we could use a little more Elvis Presley here.' There came a point where if I put in some more greaser music, it would then remove his. So I couldn't do it."

Sept 17 - Browsing Echo in the library
Wandering by the YA paperback rack at the Westwood library, noticed a whole bunch of Francesca Lia Block books -- picked up Echo to see if I had read it -- and opened it randomly to page 87:
"Maybe this was what John knew when he first saw Yoko, what Presley saw when he laid eyes upon Priscilla."

Sept 15 - Sandra Oh Hearts Thai Elvis
From Defamer's Celebrity Watch: No biggie, but I saw Sandra Oh canoodling with some skinny white guy (didn’t recognize him) late last night (10:30pm) at Palms Thai — having some good food & listening to the Thai Elvis impersonator that performs there on weekends.

Sept 14 - Editor says she's being Elvis
Sept 14 - "Suspicious Minds" as 'the whistle' on Jonsey's Jukebox
Driving home from errands (including the unplanned Target stop), listening to Jonsey's Jukebox 6:00 PM rebroadcast... each day he whistles a tune while playing it on the guitar and if you guess it and can tell him the original artist, you win. Tonight it was Suspicious Minds. He said he was looking for the artist who was most famous for singing it, who wore white with jewels all over. And then when the winner was announced, he did say it was Elvis. Clearly, Steve Jones loves The Faces most of all, but he's also very into talking about Elvis!
Sept 14 - Elvis DVD superpack at Target
Shopping at not-my-neighborhood Target, cruised the DVD section, and came across an Elvis DVD pack with it looked like 5 or so DVDs for $38.00 (something like that -- I was in a hurry). I did see Viva Las Vegas (good), It Happened at the World's Fair (very good, since I don't think it's been available for some time) and Harum Scarum (sucks!) were part of the pack.

Sept. 13 - Dave Stewart mention on 103.1
Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics was Steve Jonses's guest on Jonsey's Jukebox on Indie 103.1 today. Of course, Steve asks him what he thinks the roots of rock and roll are, and Dave gives a very interesting long answer that does include Elvis. He then tells a story someone in Memphis told him about young Elvis hanging out at the dry goods store on Beal Street.

Sept 10 - New Release DVD at Hollywood Video
Checking out the new releases at Hollywood Video came across "Elvis Has Left the Building" -- a movie staring John Corbett and Kim Bassinger and directed by the director of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It has something to do with killing Elvis impersonators by mistake. Don't think it was theatrically released. But I rented it and will be watching it this weekend!

September 2 - Seu Jorge record review
You can always count on Entertainment Weekly for an Elvis mention. This week's issue points out that Seu Jorge, the Brazillian actor who did such great Bowie covers in Life Aquatic, has a new album coming out. In the review, they specify that "his tracks from Serge Gainsbourg and Elvis Presley are a nice balance of reverence and reinvention." According to Amazon, he covers Elvis's "Don't." Can't wait until it's available on iTunes!
