April 30 - Robbie & Elvis

In an article about RW:
STATISTICS (courtesy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbie_Williams)

* He has been the recipient of many awards — including more BRIT and ECHO Awards than any other artist in history.
* It is estimated that Robbie Williams is the best selling international artist outside North America this century.
* He is currently the best selling male artist in the world, for the period 1998-2007, according to the United World Chart, and the third artist overall behind Madonna and Britney Spears.

A creepy-looking and tattooed Ryan Cabrera with his girlfriend and Elvis Presley's granddaughter, Riley Keough, Elisha Cuthbert, Adam Brody and some random chick.

april 19 - Go Country!

Driving down the freeway (not this freeway but there were very little photos to choose from), I heard the Hank Ketchum song about an Elvis movie on the marquee sign while listening to the new Country radio station.

April 21 - Perez again

Remember Julien???

The "French Sangina" - as we nicknamed him - is back, this time completely butchering Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel.

And the judges loved it!

His charisma is totally infectious. Plus he's hella hot.

And, he's making male hair clips totally in style!

Click here to watch Julien work his magic on this week's episode of Nouvelle Star.

APril 19 - All over Blender

At least 3 mentions/photos. Read it on the plane so I can't be bothered recounting each one, but one was about embarassing videos pop stars have done. He was #2 with his sad pre-death performance.

April 20 - What the heck was a photo of Elvis doing at the printer?

It was a close up of him laughing at the Madison Garden Press Conference. I don't know why. But there was also a picture of Princess Diana if that's any clue..

April 20 - On Perez

Who said the following?

"I have fame on the level of a Marilyn Monroe or an Elvis, but part of the reason I didn't go the way they did was because of my beliefs."

From an article online:

Now, R&B--like all mass musical forms, from indie rock to hip-hop and techno--is a formally conservative art. What makes great R&B hasn't changed a lick since the days of Ruth Brown and Big Mama Thornton. (And, truth be told, if anybody knows any songs that match Brown's "5-10-15 Hours" or Thornton's "Just Like a Dog," please respond to the e-mail address below.) And, as any pop music listener from the past 50 years knows, any time white people start reaping the benefits of the work of black people it presents a bit of a social, political, cultural, and moral rub (see also: Presley, Elvis; rock 'n' roll, history; America, 18th- and 19th-century agrarian economy; etc.).

April 13 - Catching up on old newspaper articles

An article on Ms. McGowan promoting Grindhouse, and mentioned her A-M credit in the miniseries.

April 13 - Search engine mystery

I was searching the library database for this book, and the Million Dollar Quartet also came up!

April 13 - Drivers Licenses in the window

Walking along Hollywood Blvd, saw a mess of celeb drivers licenses on the window of one of those tourist traps stores. Of course they had the King's.

April 13 - JRM again

A quick credit claim for Jon Rhys Meyers in EW. Haven't they finished plugging that damn Tudors yet?

April 13 - When You Hear Tim McGraw, I Hope You Think of Me

From an EW on-line Q&A:

EW:So does that get you to thinking — not that you don't have a nice nest egg already — ''Man, I'm gonna have to be on the road every year for retirement and the kids''?

TM: No. No way. I'm not gonna be doing that. Uh-uh! I'm gonna be fat and fishin' like Elvis somewhere one day.

April 7 - Which rock group would you tattoo?

So we see this guy with all the members of Kiss tattooed on his legs, and I ask the women I was with who they would get tattoo of if they had to have a tattoo of a rock group. One went for Sting, while another changed the rules and said she'd prefer a dragon. Then they said "I know who you'd have -- Elvis!"

april 4 - All over spy book

Of course those golden years were closer to his death date, but EP is all over the reprinted articles in the Spy book, including the famous how much he would weigh on other planets.

April 4 - Reading newspaper article about short films

Here's a still from one that's playing in Aspen.

April 3 - Searching for Eggleston photos

I was google image searching to show DB examples of Eggleston's work after talking about the doc i watched, and came across a series of photos he did of Graceland. The first one with EP in it wouldn't load. Then the Salon article I read after finding a photo included the following paragraph:

He had also completed a commission to photograph Graceland, Elvis Presley's monument to bad taste. Though Eggleston and Presley came from opposite ends of the social spectrum, there was a certain poetic justice in the choice of Eggleston as the one to preserve Presley's milieu. After becoming a successful entertainer, Presley never wore blue jeans. Eggleston has never owned a pair in his life. The significance of wearing what are essentially work clothes was lost on neither man.

April 2 - Half baked movie

Only watched half this movie, but the little girl lead asks for a video of Elvis/Sinatra duet and the Australian guy is seen in an Elvis impersonator's outfit.

March 31 - Jerry Lee on PBS again

Once again I caught a bit of the Jerry Lee thing on PBS -- came in right on that song that references Elvis, but I never know what that song is....

March 31 - Start of Eggleston Doc

Finally caught the begining of the Eggleston doc, in which he's in a drugstore and an Elvis song is playing like Musak.

April 1 - the Ex-Mr. Lisa Marie

From the Daily Mail Q&A with Mr. Cage:

ARE YOU A SHOPAHOLIC OR SHOP-SHY?
I like clothes, but I don't collect clothes. One of the things Liberace said to Elvis Presley was: "You have to dress to match the talent," and I always thought that was a great line. Sometimes, I'll go "Well, I'm feeling like orange today", and then I'll wear an orange jacket.
