Garth Brooks Comes Out of Retirement

Garth Brooks is coming out of retirement ... again. The country megastar is set to release a two-disc compilation on Big Machine Records, the independent label that recently signed his wife Trisha Yearwood.
Though the release date has yet to be named, the effort will reportedly include four new songs plus 30 of his biggest hits. The CDs will also come with a DVD featuring 33 of Brooks' music videos.
Despite "officially" retiring in 2001, Brooks has released a greatest-hits box set and 'Lost Sessions' CD through Wal Mart, as well as 2005's highest-debuting single, 'Good Ride Cowboy' -- a tribute to his late friend, country star Chris LeDoux. This new project, however, will be Brooks' first label-distributed album since 2001's 'Scarecrow.'
With over 115 million albums sold in the U.S. alone, Brooks is second only to Elvis Presley in album sales by a solo artist.

Give it up for Blender, which almost always features EP. This one references the Comeback. Of course, it's not this cover -- this was was the cover from 2 issues ago. The new one has Kelly Clarkson on the cover.

June 19 - Wanna watch?
I think I put the wrong images with each post of these last two, but can't be bothered to fix it. This was supposed to illustrate the following: The 50th anniversary of the release of "Jailhouse Rock" will be observed with a screening July 27, including an appearance by renowned songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who wrote most of the tunes that Elvis Presley sang in the movie.

As always, Blender has not updated their site with the current cover -- of the White Stripes. Mention of Jack Black playing Elvis is a movie, and also in the 100 events that effected Rock and Roll (or something like that) Elvis is all over it.
June 15 - Two mentions, by Brando & Mae West
In a book of Playboy interviews with Larger than Life personalities, Mae West mentions Elvis was less popular when he got married, and the Marlon Brando has a whole speech about Elvis: Elvis Presley -- bloated, over the hill, adolescent entertainer, suddenly drawing people into Las Vegas -- had nothing to do with excellence, just myth. It's convenient for people to believe that something is wonderful, therefore they're wonderful.

Come on! It's one of the most mystical things that ever happened to me, waking up one morning with that tune in my head. I mean, that's pretty far out. Recently, though, I realized I'd hardly heard any of these 3,000 cover versions. [Laughs] So I had someone make me a CD of the 10 most amazing covers: you know, Frank Sinatra, Elvis [Presley], Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles. The funniest thing was, three or four of them changed the lyric very subtly. Fabulous! In the middle I go, [sings] "I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday." Killin' time at Borders, flipped thru a new book with Brokeback Mtn on the cover -- turns out Jailhouse Rock (complete with whipping picture) counts as a gay cinema iconic moment. Can't remember what the book was called but it was something like Frighting the Horses.
