March 30 - old blender mag

I'm working my way thru an old issue of Blender while killing time, and there was an article about the Nixon library showing things from his historic meeting with Elvis. They used this colorized photo to illustrate.

March 30 - forever associated

From the LA TImes: As to the king himself, Rhys Meyers brings to the part a superhero torso and the curling lip that served him well as Elvis Presley in a TV movie a couple of years back, but gives overall what might be called an uncomplicated performance, long on quivering intensity and short on humor. He might be playing a serial killer as easily as a king.

March 29 - from Pink is the New Blog website

This is only the second time that the USPS is allowing the public to vote on which stamp goes into special production (you may remember that the public was asked to cast their vote for either the "young Elvis" or the "old Elvis"). While I like that the Postal Service is offering these fun stamps, I'd much prefer if they did so without having to charge us more to mail letters. See ... this is why email is so much better than snail mail. [Source]

March 29 - From Oh No They Didn't

Well known for playing two kings (Elvis and Henry VIII), Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and longtime girlfriend Reena Hammer catch a flight to NYC via LAX airport on Tuesday.

Jonathan and Reena will be celebrating the NYC premiere of the Showtime original series The Tudors at W New York Union Square on Wednesday evening.

March 28 - Onion AV report

Form the Onions songs that could be movies. Boy named sue was #1, thus the Johnny Cash photo to illustrate the article.

18. Elvis Presley, "In The Ghetto"

"In The Ghetto" might be a more soulful song if Elvis Presley didn't sound entirely aware of how very, very soulful he sounds, but the material is still mighty sad—and general enough to be an iconic illustration rather than the story of any one specific person. In an unspecified Chicago ghetto, "a poor little baby child is born" to a mother who can't deal with another mouth to feed. Growing up impoverished and hungry, he also grows up mad and desperate, leading to a tragedy that Mac Davis' lyrics present as inevitable. Davis' much-covered (even on American Idol) song could stand to be subtler—the bridge where Presley demands "People, don't you understand / The child needs a helping hand / Or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day"—is particularly overwrought. Then again, it's also true.

March 22 - Love Me Tender Next

When I was watching some movie on my DVR (which I adore) it went beyond the movie to the "Coming Up Next" pages- - and Love Me Tender was coming up next (on Encore, I believe). Then when I was checking for more movies to add to the queue, I saw Girls! Girls! Girls! was on....

March 22 - RSVP

We're having a corporate baby/bridal shower at work with an e-vite RSVP, and someone mentioned having Elvis perform the ceremonies in their RSVP. P.S. I'm categorizing this as a conversational mention because I don't know what else to do with it.

March 21 - YouTube again

The description: If it's wrong to tell the truth
Then what am I supposed to do
When all I want to do is speak my mind
If it's wrong to do what's right
I'm prepared to testify
If loving you with all my heart is a crime
Then I'm guilty

Elvis has returned to the building and his name is Robbie Williams

March 20 - Herman's Hermit Knew Elvis

Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits was on Jonsey's Jukebox today. When asked what celebrity he met that disappointed him, he told a long story about interviewing Elvis. The upshot is that Noone's British humor didn't work but ultimately he liked Elvis.

March 18 - Pat Green is a nut

Now that I have the poor-person's TiVo, I can watch the country music stations again without suffering through all those commercials. So last night I watched Pat Green on My Music Mix on GAC, and he says all kinds of crazy things, including a brief reference to Elvis.

March 13 - Down Under EP

Here's a description of a new short film playing a fest whose listings I checked today:

Elvis Lives in Parkes
Australia, 25 min.
Bushfires, floods, public ridicule, financial loss'nothing can deter a small band of devotees from the tiny outback town of Parkes from creating Australia's biggest, and most unlikely, annual Elvis celebration.

So you'd like to... become a redneck
A guide by Rockabilly Rebel "Adam" (Ohio)

Being a redneck is something you are born into, but with this guide I will try to help you develop this lifestyle. I will give you a starter kit, but you will want to buy more later on.

Music
Let's start with your music collection. I'm sorry, but Michael Jackson and Madonna have to go. You can replace them with Elvis. If you prefer a band over a solo act, check out Lynyrd Skynyrd - All Time Greatest Hits, "Creedence Clearwater Revival - Chronicle, Vol. 1: The 20 Greatest Hits", and ZZ Top - Greatest Hits. If you are a solo act type, check out Bob Seger - Greatest Hits, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Greatest Hits, Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits, and The Definitive Collection

By now you are probably saying, "Man, where the hell's the country?" If you want it here it is. Start off with the greatest country act of all time. Garth Brooks? Hell no. I'm talking about The Man In Black and a perfect starter is The Essential Johnny Cash. Other country artists you should add to your collection are: Hank Williams - 40 Greatest Hits, 40 #1 Hits, Ultimate Waylon Jennings, The Essential Willie Nelson, The Essential George Jones: The Spirit of Country, and The Essential David Allan Coe

Movies
A simple rule of thumb: Burt Reynolds is the King. Here are a few essential films: Smokey and the Bandit - Special Edition, The Cannonball Run, Stroker Ace, Hooper, and Deliverance. In additon to Burt, here are a few other great films: Every Which Way but Loose, Viva Knievel, Convoy, and King Creole.

Books
Here are a few books you can read: Boldtext Pew Bible: King James Version, the greatest book ever, Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley, Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley, The Wildest Ride: A History of NASCAR (or, How a Bunch of Good Ol' Boys Built a Billion-Dollar Industry out of Wrecking Cars), The Tao of Willie: A Guide to the Happiness in Your Heart, and Cash: The Autobiography

TV
There have always been some great redneck shows on TV. Here are four of the best: The Andy Griffith Show - The Complete First Season, Hee Haw Collection - Premier + Laffs, The Dukes of Hazzard - The Complete First Season, and My Name Is Earl - The Complete First Season In additon, here are the best moments in the history of televison: Elvis Presley - Ed Sullivan Shows, Elvis: '68 Comeback Special, and Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite

I'd like to thank y'all for reading my list and I hope that you found it helpful. This is Adam. I'm over and out.
